Seeking Life

Tuesday, May 28, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day: Acts 20:24

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Memory verse: Psalm 90:14

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Today's reading: 2 CHRONICLES 7-9 JOHN 11:1-29

Seeking Life

Jesus said, "The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure."(John 10:10)

Some may hear this and seek this 'life in its fullest measure'. This is the way of the world. We see and hear of the grandeur of the Grand Canyon and we work and work until we are standing beside it and are looking down into it. Then we go back home with photos and trinkets and we work until the next big thing on our list.

Back up and listen to the statement Jesus made-no-listen to Him who made the statement. The one who spoke the words. He said, "I have come-so they may have..."

Our life in Christ is not about having a full life. It is about having Him. Our 'seeking' God is not about having 'all the other things that will be added'(Matthew 6:33)-it is about having God.

This is not about having all the knowledge we can accumulate about God. Our enemy is brilliant and knows all about God-and hates Him.

God is not the next big thing on our list-if God is not our desire, the list is worthless. Desire is the key.

This is where this verse comes in: "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4

When our delight or our peace-filled joy is in the Lord, He replaces the desires in our hearts with the desires He wants us to have.

When Paul says, "I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus"(Philippians 3:15), the key is the desire that makes Him 'press on'.  Paul goes on to say in verse 15:

"All of us who are mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will reveal this to you as well."

God will reveal it to you. There it is. If your desire is not what it should be, admit it to God and continue seeking Him. God will show you greater desire for Him if you want it. (I don't think you would be reading this if you did not have enough desire to want Him more.)

Don't pray to know more about God-pray to know God more.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

I want to know You, oh God, not just a library about you. I want to know Your heart. Show me Holy Spirit.

Amazing God,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
