Today's reading: JOSHUA 13-15 LUKE 1:57-80

Who Is Pure In Heart?

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

So, your heart is pure? Is it your opinion or the opinion of God? Does God say your heart is pure or is that according to you?

Proverbs 16:2 ESV

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,

but the Lord weighs the spirit.

The man whose heart is pure would be the very last to claim it because a pure heart is a humble heart.

Numbers 12:3 ►Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.(Moses never claimed to be anything but unworthy...)

Moses saw God face to face-spoke with Him as friend with friend:

And it came about, whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and the LORD would speak with Moses . . . the LORD [spoke] to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. Exodus 33:9, 11

How do you get pure and stay pure?

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure?

By guarding it according to your word.

How do we know when we have a pure heart? That should not be a concern. Why? The Bible tells us to:

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

In Christ you are in the Kingdom--but are you continually seeking His righteousness? How do we do that? We seek to know God by what we learn in His word-relentlessly seeking God in His word. As we live our lives and seek God's heart(His righteousness), God adds a little of all He has for us at a time.

We should never judge our own purity-it is not of ourselves-Paul wrote: "More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith." Philippians 3:8

Proverbs 16:2 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,

but the Lord weighs the spirit.

If we are listening, God will show us the next step to whatever it is He has for us. If we are not seeking, it is easy to say that we will miss whatever that is.

It is pointless to dwell on what we may have missed, but, it is a challenge to us to make sure we don't miss anything else that God has for us in His kingdom.

I said before that if you are saved you are in the Kingdom of God. Being in the kingdom means we take God's will to heart that He does not want any to perish. Being part of the kingdom means we do the work of the evangelist and that can take many forms in day to day life.

Seeking God and His kingdom and His righteousness will yield a pure heart-but-we are so consumed with His purity and purpose, we will never notice ours...

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

I confess that I am not where I should be-I am not seeking Your kingdom and Your righteousness like I should. Pierce my heart with urgency...

Merciful and mighty God,

In the name of Jesus,

Amen
