Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your limitless love in Christ and endless power. Build my trust and my passion. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
Verse of the day: 1 Corinthians 1:18
18 “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Daily Reading: 2 Samuel 3-5 Luke 14:25-35
Power in Exhaustion
We don’t know when or even if Jesus slept during Holy week but we do know when He did not sleep. We know He did not sleep after Wednesday night because we assume He was awake during the day Thursday and then Thursday night was the last supper and the betrayal that led into a sleepless time up until the crucifixion.
I read all this over and over in John’s gospel and all I kept thinking was how exhausted Jesus must have been. He was carrying the weight of the sins of the world to the cross. Luke records that Jesus sweat drops of blood in anguish. He had to have been, mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. In Matthew, Jesus says He is overwhelmed to the point of death.
The message I hear is that Jesus was running on nothing but the power of the Holy Spirit. All His other strength was gone-until His heart stopped.
In John 14:15-20, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit-the Spirit of truth. He says in verse 19, “Because I live, you also will live.”
In His sleepless time before His death, He was living because the Father was in Him-because The Father Lives.
Jesus went through His hardest time with His Father in Him. Jesus is telling us that nothing that this world can put us through can tear Him from our hearts. The Holy Spirit cannot be beaten out-cannot be exhausted out of us-cannot be cried out-cannot be killed out of our souls.
Our God will never leave us-never abandon us. The Spirit’s power is always in us.
Thank You Lord, for this truth.
...because He loves us…
Father in Heaven,
Your name is my life and power. Forgive me for being so weak in my faith. Give me more for today. Lead me away from being false.
Father of all security,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
