Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
Verse of the day: John 3:17
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Today’s Reading: 1 Chronicles 28-29 John 9:24-41
Please Help Us
In 1 Chronicles 29, King David is praying before the people and it says it like this in the International Children’s Bible:
18 “Lord, you are the God of our ancestors. You are the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Please help your people to want to serve you always. And help them to want to obey you always.19 Give my son Solomon a strong desire to serve you.
David prayed for God to ‘help the people want to serve and obey’ God and for God to give Solomon a strong desire to serve Him.
At first, this prayer seemed effective. The people served and obeyed and Solomon was blessed because he was faithful to God. But then, little by little, Solomon got away from God and the people saw it and eventually, when Solomon was gone, God’s people went back to evil worship-away from God. Kings did what God said was wrong and so did the people.
The point of this for today is that what King David prayed was an effective prayer-but it should have been continued by the people and by Solomon.
This may seem like such an insignificant thing but it is of utmost importance. No matter where we are in our own walk with the Lord Jesus, the enemy seeks our failure.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread”. Our daily bread? Desire to serve and obey. If anything is weak in our faith, it is due to a lack of desire.
One of our past memory verses says, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32)
God knows what each one of us needs from moment to moment but we must be diligent to ask and use what God gives us.
Diligence in prayer-asking God to build our desire for Him-to obey and serve Him. It does not come naturally.
Ask God for greater desire-a growing desire for your heart to serve and obey and love Him. Our growth cannot stop-no matter where we think we are.
...because He loves us...He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, hallowed be Your name. Grow my desire to know Your kingdom and to serve and obey You. Give me today deep desire for You. Forgive me for being stagnant. Lead me away from apathy.
Giver of all good and perfect gifts,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
