Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Joshua 1:9
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Verses of the day-1 Corinthians 15:3-4
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 25-26 Luke 12:32-59
Mercy That Never Stops
Billy Graham said that grace is getting what you don’t deserve ans mercy is not getting what you do…
The Old Testament book of 1 Samuel shows us how God’s mercy should be lived in our lives. Two times, first in chapter 24 and then again in Chapter 26, Saul is chasing David to kill him but God, in His grace, gets warning to David. David has a chance both times to give Saul what he deserved(death) but both times spared his life showing God’s mercy.
If Saul had caught David, in his crazed rage, he would surely have killed him but God’s grace saved David and God’s mercy in David spared Saul.
That grace has been shown to each of us who are born of the Spirit of God
Micah 6:8 says this:
8 “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
To love God(Matthew 22:37-39) is to love His mercy while we live a just life. A just life is a life lived without judgment(Matthew 7:1-3). The natural mind will judge people on every level. The ‘God-conscious’ mind does not judge but loves to be merciful. This mind, the mind we have in Christ, looks past the outside of man to the soul that is made in God’s image and feels mercy and compassion in divine love.
This is truly walking humbly before our God.
So, where are we-you-me-in this life of loving mercy. Do we see people who do evil on the news and judge them as deserving harsh punishment or do we feel compassion from God’s mercy?
After all, we have been freed from punishment for our sins. In God’s love, we should want that for all-even our enemies(Matthew 5:44).
This is something we all need to pray for-God’s mercy to flow from our hearts and not the judgment of the enemy. Ask God to know His mercy the way He wants you to.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Great God of all mercy and grace, let Your kingdom grace grow in my heart. Let me learn of Your mercy today as You show mercy. Forgive me for my desire to judge. Lead me away from this wickedness.
Merciful Father of all grace,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
