8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the 

truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and 

just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all 

unrighteousness.

Loving In Truth

Jesus commands us to not make ‘oaths’(Matthew 5:36&37), or, as we know them, promises. Why? One of the glories of Jesus is that He frees us from the need to lie and from the need to prove that we don’t lie.

Over 50 times in the Gospels Jesus uses, “Truly I say to you”, and over 25 times says, “Truly, Truly…”. Jesus says this to emphasize, I believe, His deep love for His listeners. In other words, Jesus was saying, “What I am saying I say in complete love-you really need to hear it-so listen to this deep truth.”

Jesus had an eternal purpose for every word that He said and was teaching us that every word that comes out of our mouths never dies-someone will remember every word.

What Jesus is teaching us about not making promises applies to our every word: “If what we say cannot be said in His love with His peace and joy and in His wisdom, it cannot be said.”

The third chapter of James talks about how evil the tongue is-taming the tongue is humanly impossible but with God it is possible.

Jesus wants us to know the freedom in honest speech and wants our integrity to be known in the world. But, when our integrity is questioned, this is when we must be ready with His full armor. We must stop, give our anger over to Him and reason in His love and peace-the love He lived during His trial and execution.

When we live in His truth and it is questioned, we are free in knowing He knows our hearts whether the world will admit it or not.

Our freedom is living in His loving truth.

Tell God you want to live free in His truth.

...because He loves us, He will do it...

Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come Your will be done. Give me today what You know I need. Forgive me for not being real. Keep me from this evil.
