In The Spirit

There is no truth apart from the Holy Spirit of God-there is no truth apart from the Spirit...

Do you believe this?

John 14:6- Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life..."

John 14:26 ►But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Have we forgotten part of God? This Advocate, the Holy Spirit? Have we smothered our knowledge of the Holy Spirit with much education and many words? Forgive me for judging, but it seems much of the orthodox Christian world has.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit "...will teach 'us' all things and help us remember all the things He said to us".

Does that mean we can read the scripture and study vigorously and learn the mind of Christ? No, it does not.

I have a good friend who is a much beloved teacher. People make sure they are there to hear him teach. He would be the first to tell all that the Holy Spirit is the most important part of his teaching-not just the words alone. The Holy Spirit gives what the theologians call 'divine enlightenment'.

We can read the words of scripture with great consistency but without our seeking the Holy Spirit's voice in that written word and hearing it, the words never get off the page and into our hearts, souls, and minds.

Likewise, we can be thrilled by a great teacher but without listening to the divine Spirit's voice, the thrill lasts as long as the teacher teaches.

So, what do we do? The words we use to approach God are different for all. We must humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God; we must pray for His mercy on us; we must ask God for us to hear with the Spirit's wisdom. But, no one can pray this for us. Before a class, the teacher can pray a prayer over us but we must be yielded and surrendered and desiring the Holy Spirit's wisdom and listen with the mind of Christ.

The scripture tells us all that God has given us-the Holy Spirit-the mind of Christ, etc., but we must ask God to show us how to use it all.

The great teachers are a blessing but the Holy Spirit gives us all the same revelation by the Holy Spirit. No, we are not all meant to be great teachers but we are all meant to be 'Holy Spirit listeners and learners'.

You know where you stand. Are you thrilled by the word of God when alone or must you be in a great worship service or listening to a Spirit-filled teacher?

God waits to thrill you with His presence right where you are. The Holy Spirit is right there with you. Ask Him-invoke Him-surrender-and pray for great desire to know Him all you can.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Have mercy on me, Holy Spirit and let me hear You. Forgive me for taking You for granted and allow me to hear You in my heart and soul and mind. Build in me a great desire to hear You continually.

Great God of enlightenment and revelation,

In the name of Christ our Lord,

Amen
