Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verse of the day-Matthew 20:17-19

17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, 18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death 19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

Today’s reading: Judges 16-18 Luke 7:1-30

A More Opportune Time

Luke 4:13 (ESV)

13 And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

Jesus had been tempted in the wilderness and was so strong that the enemy left so he could maybe find a time of weakness in Christ and come and try again. Throughout the ministry of Christ Jesus, you can read in scripture the words of opposition and hate that can come from only the enemy.

The night before the crucifixion, this was the most opportune time. This is the time that the enemy thought he would finally see Christ Jesus break.

It did not happen. Christ withstood it all.

Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)

2 “...looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The first Adam had failed. We must hear what one writer called ‘the battle cry of obedience’ in Luke 22:42: “Not my will but thine”.

The one thing that we all must seek to learn from Christ is the depth of His humility:

Philippians 2:8 (ESV)

8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

We cannot claim ignorance of humility. We must confess how we ignore it in our pride. We hear and see that pride in the scribes and Pharisees and in the Romans-it is in their ‘superior’ attitude. The same attitude that ate the forbidden fruit is the same attitude that keeps us from real humility. We are not entitled-we are servants of the most high God who, when living humbly before our God(Micah 6:8), will have the joy of Christ(Hebrews 12:2) become full in our lives.

The enemy saw the garden of Gethsemane as an opportune time to see the defeat of Christ. Christ defeated not only sin but death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Christ Jesus makes our time in him time of great opportunity. If in pain, it is our time to humble ourselves and know His full peace. When in victory, it is our time to humble ourselves before Him in worship and celebration.

Humility is opportunity in Christ. Tell God you want to find your garden of humility and live in obedience and His joy.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Everlasting is Your name, oh God. Your kingdom is perfect. Give me the desire to obey as they do in Heaven. Forgive me for my attitude of entitlement. Lead me away from this evil.

Great Teacher of humility and gentleness,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
