How Much Do You Really Want?
Puritan Thomas Watson, in 1692, wrote:
"So, for God to say, Go to the ordinances, get as much grace as you can, dig out as much salvation as you can; and the more happiness you have, the more I shall count myself glorified."
Matthew 5:6 ►Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
In 1729, Jonathon Edwards wrote:
"There is no such thing as excess in our taking of this spiritual food. There is no such virtue as temperance in spiritual feasting."
In 1559, John Calvin wrote that the perfection of human happiness is to be 'united with God' and then said,
"Hence the more anyone endeavors to approach to (know)God, the more he proves himself endowed with reason."
Faithful following of God and Godly happiness in Christ has been written about through the centuries.
None of these people had any of our modern conveniences-grocery stores, indoor bathrooms, cars, etc.
In all of our opulence, have we forgotten what real desire is for what is true and righteous ? The world teaches us that all we need is the money to make and keep us comfortable and shows us how to do it. The world's bottom line has become the seed for all our desires.
God is on top-our desires are at the bottom...
Pray for righteous desire-pray for God to show you that what you really need is Him and Him alone and that when we begin to live this reality, we will have all we ever need.
2 Peter 1:3 in the Bible says, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness".
Pray for a yearning-a deep, deep need to know more about the heart of God. Nothing else will make a difference in a thousand years...
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Give me , oh great God, a desire to really hallow Your name and for my own obedience to You. Grant me that same desire for Your daily bread and to live with a forgiving heart. Forgive me my unconscious times.
Great is Your faithfulness, tender and joyful God,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
