His Two Shoulders

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verse of the day-Psalm 14:1

14 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”    They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;    there is none who does good.

Today’s reading: Judges 13-15 Luke 6:27-49

Only Two

This is what we call Holy Week where we celebrate special days but what about every other day that has no special designation? What about today?

Let’s think about what Jesus carried to the cross. He carried the sins of the world.

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

On only His two shoulders he carried it all. All His people had run away and Peter hung around to deny he had ever even met Jesus. Of all loneliness, this was the greatest of all.

Jesus said, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”(Matthew 27:46)

This was the Son of God as lonely as anyone has ever been-on His two shoulders.

“He was despised and rejected by men,     a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;and as one from whom men hide their faces     he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)

On His two shoulders Jesus carried the truth that He was dying for His despisers. Any sin is despising the truth of Christ. We despised Him. We were on His two shoulders and only His.

Now on His shoulders He carries our hope and our salvation. He carries us.

Jesus said this, “Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:32–33)

Christ has overcome-defeated-any trouble we could have in this world-even the long term consequences of our own sin. Jesus has defeated any dark feelings of emotion or any emotional pain so that we can live in His freedom.

So, as you see, this is not just for the days of Holy week that are set aside to be ‘special’, this truth is for every day of your, our, existence.

Ask God to teach you how to live in this, His, truth-the truth on His two shoulders.

...because He loves us, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Your name is glorious. Your Kingdom is what I want to learn. Give me today what You want me to have. Forgive me for allowing the loneliness to creep in. Lead me away from evil.

Father of Light and truth,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
