Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV
Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”
Verse of the day: Ephesians 5:1
5 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
Today’s reading: Proverbs 30-31 2 Corinthians 11:1-15
Fear Not Little Flock
Luke 12:32,33
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Therefore, sell your possessions, and give to the needy.”
This is not simply about money. Please don’t go there. This is about using everything we have to bless others. It can be money (Matt. 19:21) or healing (Matt. 10:8) or a cup of cold water (Mark 9:41) or time and effort like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:34–35) or your home and hospitality (Luke 14:13–14) but Jesus is telling us how to be free from the love of money and the fear of losing its security and comfort. In the flesh, we are greedy for more and fear losing it.
The sacrifice of the widow(Luke 21:1-4) tells of the kind of giving Jesus wants in us. We are not giving sacrificially until we give past what we think is ‘plenty’. Our fear and greed is a sign of the ‘Leaven of the Pharisees’(Matthew 16:6).
Giving of all our lives above and beyond what ‘we think is required by God’ is a sign we are free from the bondage of greed. This says that we have come out of our own selfishness and are focusing on making others glad. This kind of God-given heart can demolish our houses of materialism.
Jesus does not say , “It is the King’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”, He says, “It is your Father’s good pleasure…”
Nothing brings God more pleasure than to give loving and joyful believer’s His kingdom and everything in it. He wants us to know His joy. Jesus said, “...That my joy may be complete in you.”
This may the be the hardest thing any of us grow into understanding with all our worldly conditioning that is based on money. But it cannot be erased from the Holy scripture. This is God’s truth.
This takes prayer over a long period of time. This first starts with taking up our own, personal cross daily. It starts with our personal discipline and this is where our determination has to be rooted in the sacrifice of Christ and God’s absolute provision.
Ask God how your heart needs to changed.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Your name is above all my fear and greed. Thank you for the kingdom. Teach me-lead me to do Your Heavenly will. Forgive me for my greed. Lead me away from the love of worldly security.
Lover of the flock,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
