Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, load me with desire to seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Hold my attention constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Verse of the day- Ephesians 5:25-26
25 “Husbands, love your wives, in the same way as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, by cleansing her with the washing of water in connection with the Word.”
Today’s reading: Mark 8:36 “After all, what good is it for a man to gain the whole world and yet forfeit his soul?”
Today’s reading: Job 3-4 Acts 7:44-60
Breadth and Depth-Part 3
Fast And Slow
We want to read the all of our scripture reading everyday but special verses keep ‘jumping off the page’ and we want to look deeper into what God wants us to hear and it is frustrating. Relax. The enemy wants to frustrate us while we are in God’s word so don’t play into his hands.
Everyone needs a journal of some type-a little notebook that we write in just for our study.
As I read though Job 4:6 today, Job’s friend asked, “Is not your fear of God your confidence?”
I did not want to forget this so I noted it and went on reading.
Now, I can go back and look at a commentary or in the translation and go deeper. The Holy Spirit grabs our attention for a reason-a deeper understanding of God’s heart for us.
When I was working in the oil field, I would leave for the site at 6am and return between 7:30 and 9pm. It was hard to keep up my study. At church one day, a friend said he enjoyed these devotionals written in the oil field more than ever and I was so surprised because it was such a struggle.
In a time of struggle, God blesses our commitment. So, don’t think you are alone trying to ‘get it all done’. God gives us what we need(Romans 8:32) when we need it most. He knows we need to be reading His word and He wants us to have a deep understanding but He knows it comes a little at a time because each small thing of His kingdom we hang onto is such a victory.
The mindset of commitment-1 Kings 8:61 -” Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”
Try praying this verse: Let my heart be true to You, my Lord, as I study and live in obedience to Your heart today”
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Your name is above all else. Your kingdom is in my heart. Let my heart be true to You, my Lord, as I study and live in obedience to Your heart today. Lead me away from evil.
God of deep wisdom,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
