Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)

I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Verse of the day: Psalm 1:1-2

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 11-13 James 1

Explain to a Child

Can you, as a Christian adult, explain happiness to a child? Well, I want us to look at a Bible verse that explains happiness in the International Children’s Bible. It will not read the same in your Bible. But when I read this, I pulled it up in the Greek translator and it is very true and renders it easier to understand.

James 1: 25 “But the truly happy person is the one who carefully studies God’s perfect law that makes people free. He continues to study it. He listens to God’s teaching and does not forget what he heard. Then he obeys what God’s teaching says. When he does this, it makes him happy.”

That word ‘happy’ is most likely ‘blessed’ in your Bible. It comes from the Greek word ‘makarios’ which translates ‘happy’ or ‘blessed’.

Have you ever tried to explain happiness to an adult or tried to define it for yourself? This is the definition God has spoken through James.

The person who really studies God’s word and hears it and keeps it in their heart and does what it says is happy.

Again, this is not ‘happy’ as described by the world. It is the deep-seated joy that flows from the Holy Spirit.

A clogged fuel filter will cause an engine to stall and not run but it can cause weakness in performance on the way to being completely stopped up.

God gave us a filter, the Holy Spirit-the Spirit of Truth. He gave us His Owner’s manual with maintenance instructions and it is readily available to all of us.

Why is it so hard to define happiness to a child? Because-we have a hard time reading and remembering God’s instructions that are, really, very clear.

We must pray and ask God to get our hearts and minds to this place in our solid determination:

Isaiah 50:7 “Because the Lord GOD helps Me, I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame.”

...because He loves us, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Your name is all joy and strength in all Heaven and earth. Give me what I need step by step today to become determined to obey Your Word. Forgive me my weak resolve. Lead me away from evil.

God who does not lie,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
