Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
“I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Verses of the day-1 John 3:18
18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
Today’s reading: Numbers 15-16 Mark 6:1-29
Extravagant Devotion
Thoughts on worship…
First, the word ‘exult’-Psalm 9:2“I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praises to your name, Most High!”
In John, Chapter 11, Jesus raises Lazarus from the grave-from death to life.
In chapter 12, Martha is serving a special meal for Jesus and Mary uses a very expensive fragrance to anoint Jesus.
Extravagance-all she could do-Mary was elated day to day because Jesus had brought her brother back to life and she was filled with overflowing emotion at His great love and power-she exulted in Him.
A year’ wages(Judas’ price of the ‘nard’ fragrance)-U.S. minimum wage, 12 hour days-$22,260. Judas sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver-30 ounces of silver today-$959.70-Mary loved Jesus-Judas loved money.
What will it take for us to feel, in our own ways, as Mary felt toward Jesus-full exultation?
Nothing in the world was more important to Mary than Jesus. To Mary, the ‘nard’ was not extravagant. Her excitement in Jesus was total. She was consumed by Him.
Hebrews 12:29 “For our God is a consuming fire”.
Jesus is life and He shares that life with all who trust Him. Like Lazarus, in Christ, we have all been raised from the dead.
Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus...”
Jesus gave His life to raise us with Him. How thankful are we? Thankful enough to exult in God like Mary? We must consider thoroughly our eternal deliverance and His complete love and sustenance for us-our eternal security in Christ.
I pray we exult in Him.
...because He loves us…
Father in Heaven,
Fill me to exultation so I may hallow Your name. Fill me with urgency for obedience to You. I totally depend on Your provision. I am chief of sinners, forgive me and lead me away from wickedness.
Most powerful Deliverer,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
