Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day: Hebrews 1:3

who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Memory of the Month: John 10:27-28

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Today's reading: 1 SAMUEL 15-16 LUKE 10:25-42

Distracted?

Jesus-the most important person in Mary and Martha's world-He was in their house and things had to be readied. Martha had to gather all she could afford for the meal. Proper place settings had to be counted, clean, and placed. Everything in the house had to be in its proper place. Luke 10:40 reads as follows: "But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made."

Is distraction a sin? Whatever comes between you and the Lord has to be born of sin. If we are truthful, most of us have been distracted from listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. It was simple to Mary-sit and listen; it was not so with Martha. She had let the urgent replace the 'one thing' that was needed.

Luke 10:41-Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus only mentions Martha's being 'upset and worried'. He does not mention all her preparatory activities-just her attitude.

Mary was consumed with Jesus, Martha was consumed with worry.

Those little houses did not have many walls. You would have to be really be preoccupied not to overhear Jesus in the same room. Jesus just wanted Martha to listen while she worked. He knew she would not stop-He wanted her to learn while she labored.

We are always in the same room with the Holy Spirit or the Holy Spirit is always with us. We may be too 'distracted' to pay attention to Him but the only wall that ever separates us from God is the wall we allow. Worry, attitude, sin-these walls keep us from hearing Jesus.

There is a lot of work that must be done in and for the kingdom of God. God wants us to listen while we labor and remember that the toil is just that-toil. It is not really needed. The work affords opportunity to share the 'main thing'.

The scripture tells us, "In your anger, do not sin"(Ephesians 4:26). Jesus could have said, "In any great emotion-do not sin".

In any time of great emotion, and any other time, we are to be in control of our emotion; we are to be in one mind with the Holy Spirit so we can hear clearly how He wants us to handle the situation.

Our constant ear on the heart of God-a remedy for hearing what the world says.

...because He loves us...

Father God in Heaven,

Forgive me for losing control of my hearing.

Help me to train my focus-Holy Spirit my self-control to keep Your righteousness before me.

Great God of personal peace!

In Christ Jesus name,

Amen
