Daily Bread
What is 'daily bread', anyway? Along with food, daily bread is anything that sustains life.
A dear friend of mine is a retired 'bread man'. He delivered bread for most of his life. Everyday-without fail-he delivered. If he had not delivered, people would have done without. But, folks still had to go to the store and get the bread. There are two sides to this 'bread' thing. That is why Jesus taught us to ask for 'daily' bread. We must take steps to pick up our daily bread and we must be obedient in delivering.
The Divine personal presence of God brings us our daily bread, without fail.
Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
The Lord always knows what we need. Yes, we know some of what we need, but we don't know what is coming at us today, so, how can we know right now what we will need by nightfall?
We must depend on Him totally. We have jobs and activities in this physical world but the spiritual war rages around us. We must be alert to the Spirit and His leading.
Our daily bread-give us this day our daily bread-Matthew 4: The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
We can always eat food on the run-on the drive. We can drive through and get food and never stop-and that is the reason it is called junk food.
Do we dare let our faith become as 'fast-food' and 'drive through' once a week-at church-and pretend that is enough?
We have to have the peace to stop and consume-or take in-absorb-God's daily bread. Our ears and heart and soul take in God's sustaining life all the time. God's bread flows like a river into and out of our lives.
We may be a part of the daily bread someone else needs today. Don't let them do without.
Philippians 4:5 ►Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Whether it be gentleness, strength, or encouragement, people around us need from us that with which God has gifted us.
Bread-ask God for it-take it in-grow on it-give it away deliver...
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Give me, this day, Your daily bread for me. Help me to grasp it, use it, and give it away as You lead.
Great and mighty-sustaining God!
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
