Cause It To Happen

Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, open my heart and mind, Holy Spirit. Fill my consciousness and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Verse of the day: “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Today’s reading: Isaiah 62-64 1 Timothy 1
Cause It To Happen
In Matthew 6:9, Jesus says: “So, therefore, you pray like this, “Our father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
I don’t want us to misunderstand this. This is not telling us to praise God. Jesus is teaching us to ask God-we are to request that God makes His name be kept holy. Really-kept holy by whom?
Jesus is teaching us to ask God to make real in our hearts the reality of God’s holiness.
“Lord teach me to understand Your holiness”.
I said earlier that this is not a command to praise. I misunderstood this for a long time. Jesus is not telling us to praise God in His model prayer. He is telling us to ask God to make His holiness real in our hearts understanding that this will result in real praise.
God is a jealous God(Exodus 34:14) but that is not like human jealousy that is from fear and insecurity, etc.
Any time we desire something more than God, He sees the weakness in our love for Him because of a shallow understanding of His holiness that makes our praise false. He, alone, is worthy of our praise. This means we have ‘fallen short of His glory’(Romans 3:23).
Jesus gives us a command to ask God to cause our hearts to honor Him and completely be satisfied in Him that results in praise for God that is real.
Please don’t let this worry you as you might think you have a weak understanding. This is the very reason Jesus gave us this command. When we pray, we display our total dependence on Him. In that short prayer, Jesus commands us to :
> ask for wisdom to honor God
> ask for our hearts to know the kingdom
> ask for our obedience to be Heaven-like
> ask for what we need for this day
> confess our sins
> ask for hearts that forgive
> ask for guidance away from temptation and deliverance from evil.
I believe I hear Christ Jesus tell us to ask God to make these things happen in our individual hearts as well as the whole Body of Christ- ‘give us this day…’
So, tell God what you think and feel about what you just read and ask Him to teach you the truth of it.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Fill me with understanding of Your holiness and Your kingdom so my heart desires Heavenly obedience. Give me what I need today and forgive my weaknesses and fill me with desire to forgive. Deliver me from evil.
Father of our desires,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
