Being Thankful

Thursday, November 28, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. Build my trust. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...

Verse of the Day: 1 Chronicles 16:8

8 "Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;

make known his deeds among the peoples!"

Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )

"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"

Today's reading:   Ezekiel 35-36 2 Peter 1

Being Thankful

I want to be thankful today for some of the people I remember from my childhood. But first, a passage from today's Bible reading from 2 Peter 2:14

"...they have a heart that has exercised itself in greed;"

I want you to guess about the folks I remember. Do you think I remember the 'stingy' folks or the generous folks? Do I remember the folks who exercised their hearts in greed-the folks who worked hard at being greedy? Or, do I remember the folks who exercised generosity?

I am thankful that I seem to remember the folks who gave from what they had even when they had very little. I am so thankful I knew folks who would show up with what food they had when someone lost a family member-food brought in a bowl or serving dish that was their mother's from long ago. Tables covered with simple food made from hearts of generosity.

I am thankful for the folks who would show up and help after a fire to help folks start to put their lives back together with food and clothing and maybe even a little money for their pockets.

I am sure the greedy hearts were off at a distance, but I don't remember them.

I am thankful for the memories of good people who loved well, worked hard, and feared God.

Thank God today for the good people you know who love well, work hard, and fear God. Bad news is always around us. God wants us to see His good.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Your name is good and great. Let me see Your kingdom's good all around me. Forgive me for my greed. Lead me away from selfish ways.

God who gives us all we need,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
