Being 'God-conscious'

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verses of the day-Romans 3:23-24

23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”

 Today’s reading:  1 Samuel 22-24 Luke 12:1-31

Being ‘God Conscious’

I have mentioned what I call ’God-consciousness’ from time to time and someone asked where that term came from. I use it to describe the ‘current state of mind’ I hear in scripture that should be the mind of every believer.

1 Timothy 1:5 says, “The goal of our instruction is the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith.”

‘ Clear conscious’ here, in the Greek, is translated as ‘ongoing’ or ‘continuous’ consciousness-a maintained state of mind. From 1 Timothy 1:5, the ‘good’ conscience’ cannot be separate from a pure heart and a sincere faith-all from the steadfast love of God. This is in contrast to what Paul just said in the preceding verse when he mentioned folks who, “...devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculation…”. Then after Paul speaks of ‘a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith’, he says in verse 6,

“Some have strayed from these ways and turned aside to empty talk”

When I say ‘God-consciousness’, I mean a constant listening and awareness of God.

This is not like listening to the radio as you drive and carry on a conversation with a passenger-this is singing along with every word and grasping at the message of the lyrics.

Myths are today’s lies-speculation is the opposite of faith-empty talk is anything un-Godly.

I read the scripture and I hear a life described for us believers in Christ that is conscious of God-so-I believe in and promote ‘God-consciousness’.

If we seek God, the Holy Spirit will train our minds to stay on God-continuously-living, working, playing, struggling, grieving, succeeding, failing...rejoicing in Christ Jesus.

...because He loves us...He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Your name is highest. Place Your kingdom desires in my heart. Train my mind to stay on You. Forgive me my empty thinking. Lead me away from being distracted by the world.

Continuously flowing river of Life,

In the name of Christ The Lord,

Amen
