Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)

I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Verse of the day: Job 37:5-6

5 “God thunders wondrously with his voice: he does great things that we cannot comprehend. 6 For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour.”

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 48-49 Hebrews 7

Assurance #6

Battling Your Own Sin

As long as we live, we will have sinful tendencies, sin living in us(Romans 7:17-25). Being a child of God does not mean we will have no more sinful urges, it means we battle our sin-to put our sin to death.

Romans 8:13–14 (ESV)

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Yes, for those who are serious about Christ, sin is aggravating, annoying, and heartbreaking. But as Paul said in Romans 7:23 that the law of sin ‘wages war’ against against his mind-sin wages war against our minds. This means we must wage war against sin living in us.

We cannot, of course, wage war on our own. We must depend on God’s strength in Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.

This brings us back to a familiar verse: Ephesians 6:10&11

10 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

It means to clothe yourself-to ‘pray’ on the armor of God.

Assurance of our salvation in Christ is found in Christ. It is not found in attending church or in Bible study or in giving to the poor. These activities become real when we are abiding in Christ and abiding in Christ is waging war on our own sin.

Tell God you do not want to grow weary of fighting your own sin in His power.

Pray on God’s armor.

...because He loves you , He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Lord of Heaven’s armies, Your kingdom come in my heart as I battle my own sinful nature. Give me today what You know I need for this battle. Forgive me for relying on my own strength. Lead me away from evil.

God of all my strength,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
