Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your limitless love in Christ and endless power. Build my trust and my passion. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
Verse of the Day: 1 Timothy 2:5-6
5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Daily Reading: Judges 4-6 Luke 4:31-44
A Holiday At Sea
According to Cruise Lines International Association, 31.7 million people took a cruise in 2023. This is just one number from the world of pleasure seeking.
C. S. Lewis spoke about our attitude to worship in 1941:
“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
The contrast here is that the world sets so called ‘high standards’ for pleasure worshipers which are so very short lived but widely sought after.(Mud pies of the world.)
God offers infinite joy to His worshiping followers. Why does it seem we settle for ‘mud pies’-that is, ways of worship that look good by standards of the world.
What does the world say about people who are gathered in groups and dressed ‘up’ to honor someone? They must be reserved and show accepted décor. They ‘golf’ clap at certain times and never say anything.(mud pies in church). This is where our idea of worship came from.
On the other hand, crowds gather for sports and cheer until hearing is challenged-crowd hysteria takes over and in some places people are trampled to death just getting ‘into’ an event.
What’s my point? Worship never depends on what has been done before-it depends on what is done now-how much we treasure Christ Jesus-how much we really feel of how great and mighty God is-how surrendered we are to the Holy Spirit.
Worship does not depend on how someone else says it should be done. Worship depends how our individual souls respond to the greatness of God. When we worship together, this wonder and awe comes together in the presence of God into what He intends-not what we plan.
Jesus is Lord-or He is not. He is the Lord of worship or we make mud pies.
Real worship of our God, Maker of Heaven and earth, in Christ Jesus, is far more than any holiday at sea-unless that holiday is spent in worship in Spirit and truth.
Let God teach you His worship.
...because He loves us...He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Let me feel how great You are. Remove from me any reluctance for feeling Your unfailing love and might. Forgive me for my fear. Lead me away from falling back in the mud of sin.
Worthy God of all praise and worship,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
