What Does 'Victory' Mean?

Today's Reading:Job 3-4 Acts 7:44-60

What Does 'Victory' Mean?

The dictionary says this: an act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or other competition.

The Bible says: 1 John 5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, 4because everyone born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. 5Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.…

Deuteronomy 20:4 4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

John 16:33 NIV 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

We can see can clearly see that this life is not a game or competition-it is a war with battles everyday.

Jesus taught us to pray: ...lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil(Matthew 6:12), in other words, save us from ourselves as well as the devil.

The self part is the hardest. Not that we are stronger than the enemy but that the enemy cannot get in unless we open the door...

Ephesians 4:27 ►and do not give the devil a foothold.

We may not be stronger than he but we can decide if he gets in or not. That is one little moment-one little move-one conscious moment in decision.

Remember the movie where the bad guy gets his foot in the way of shutting the door? It is a very small space but the door is not shut so the bad guy can work his way in from there.

The enemy's world is full of vague deceit. This is why the scripture says for us to be vigilant.

1 Peter 5:8 ►Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Ephesians 6:13 NIV 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Proverbs 4:23 Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;

How much do we really want it? How much does it matter?

Someone lost is always watching...

Show them Jesus.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven, Forgive me for being full of myself. Help me learn to die to self and keep Your guard up around me always. Powerful and all protecting God! In the name of Jesus, Amen
